What is your background?
I am reading for a Ph.D. in Leadership Development, but I started my studies as a law student. I have completed my PhD – examining the optimal way for leaders and managers to learn. I’m also a Founding Executive: Leadership Development for BIPSA (Black Insurance Professionals of Southern Africa) and a member of the Advisory Council for the Da Vinci Institute amongst other endeavors.
How did you get into training?
I became a lecturer in Business Management at a business college at the age of 23, when I knew absolutely nothing about Management. My students were twice my age, and most had a great deal more experience. This taught me to be humble in the training room and to respect the knowledge of delegates as part of the journey of facilitation – it was the only way I could get away with it.
What is your favourite course that you love to teach?
Any course on Leadership where delegates fall for my sense of humour.
What training experience are you most proud of?
I did a Coaching programme for managers in the North West Education Department. At the end of the programme, the chairman gave me the greatest compliment I have ever received in Africa. He said, “When we started a week ago, I thought: You are because we are. Now, after this journey of learning, I realise we are because you are”.
What makes you unique?
I am a special, talented and unique individual – just like everybody else.
Why are you passionate about training?
People actually listen when I talk – sometimes.
What else inspires / drives you / are you passionate about (when you’re not training)?
Nothing. My sad life is limited to training. I have no hobbies and no friends.
