Ziyaad Mahomed has extensive experience in Islamic Finance over the last 12 years, completing projects in the structuring of Islamic banking products, equity fund modelling, Islamic microfinance, Islamic Insurance and Shariah finance structuring. He has trained executives, legal and finance professionals throughout Africa, Europe and the Middle East in Islamic banking, asset management, Sukuk structuring and International law & Islamic Finance amongst others.
Ziyaad is widely regarded as a subject matter expert in Islamic Finance and has consulted to some of the largest finance institutions in South Africa, Mauritius, Tanzania, Kenya, Niger and Nigeria. He has also advised and trained the legal counsel of OFID, the OPEC Fund for International development in Vienna.
Ziyaad began his career as an accountant for a public company, Moneyweb, and moved on to become Head of Accounting for a privately-owned retail chain. He was appointed in 2003 as the National Marketing & Product Development Manager to Albaraka Bank South Africa. He was responsible for product and marketing strategy, a Shariah compliant Unit Trust, Takafol, the development of investment, financing and foreign exchange products & the publishing of the annual financial statements.
Ziyaad is the MD of IFISA, an Islamic Finance consultancy and training institute in Cairo and South Africa. He has authored all the material for the institute. He holds academic qualification in Commerce, Management (MBA) and Islamic Jurisprudence
