This course is specifically tailored to the challenges that face power projects in a Sub-Saharan environment. It will be heavily based on real case studies and lessons learned instead of theoretical concepts. This highly demanding course aims to zoom from big picture context to quantitative and qualitative project level details and back up again to understanding the relationship between the two. Financial models, sample loan contracts, online tools and Africa-specific case studies will be used.

In this course, ample time will be dedicated to hands-on financial analysis and structuring of African power projects to make participants understand why projects have failed or successfully be realised. Christian Erich Grutte is an independent advisor with some 20 years’ experience in the power & renewable sector focusing on power project financing and PPAs in emerging markets.

He worked with leading IPP investors, finance institutions and governments across Africa, such as AfDB, AFC, IFC, FMO, OFID, Norfund, Scatec, Engie, Enel, EDF, ESKOM, Actis, Globeleq, Aldwych, EGENCO, Oanda, Mainstream, ABSA, Central Bank of Nigeria, Total, AES, Sumitomo Mitsui, CNOOC, KPLC, Rand Merchant Bank.

He is a part-time lecturer at IESE Business School and Frankfurt School of Finance.
